EAL (English as Additional Language) Children

I am a new language learner

I may not speak as fast as you do

I may not know this word or that one, but soon

For each word that you know I’ll have two

 

I might be lost and confused now and then

The words might come out quite strange

I’m just getting to grips with ten thousand of them

My brain is under incredible change

 

Can you even imagine a world where

You were doing this class in Japanese?

And everyone knew what the teacher was saying

Except you, they all look so at ease

 

You might see my language as weakness

But I promise that’s simply not true

You see having two languages is my superpower

I see the world not in one way but two

 

STOC is a school of multi cultures, religions and languages.  We believe every new child to the UK is treated as an individual with differing abilities and confidence.  No one child is the same!  At STOC we believe that every child matters and it is so important to us that we welcome children into our school family with the same enthusiasm and kindness that every child deserves.

Each child is given dedicated time to settle and help boost their confidence.  We at STOC realise how daunting it is for a child to leave their country of birth and come to a place which is completely alien to them. 

Our number one target is that each child is happy, making new friends and enjoy coming to our school! We have welcomed hundreds of children from all around the world over the years and each one has had a settling in plan and daily lessons with Miss Townsend to nurture and develop their English and understanding.
