In celebration of Earth Day,
Why not plant a tree?
It will produce fresh air,
And be a joy for all to see.
In celebration of Earth Day,
Go and visit a local park.
Get back in touch with nature,
Its sites and sounds in light and dark.
In celebration of Earth Day
Try to be more aware,
Of how your actions affect this world
And devote yourself to its care.
Today at STOC we are having our very own Earth Day. World Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22 April. This year's theme is "Invest in our Planet".
Today in school, the children have been doing lots of fun activities; have had meaningful discussions around the topic of Earth Day, looked at different foods from around the world and enjoyed singing about our Earth too!
Teaching children about Earth Day is important in order for future generations to preserve the land which we live on. Education is the most powerful catalyst for change. Every Earth Day is an opportunity to show our support for protecting the environment and to show just how much we care about our surroundings. STOC fully supports this cause and will continue to teach our children about the importance of keeping our planet clean and safe for years to come, and how we need to reduce the amount of pollution we produce and fight against climate change.
We pray
Lord, grant us the wisdom to care for the earth and till it.
Help us to act now for the good of future generations and all your creatures.
Help us to become instruments of a new creation, Founded on the covenant of your love.
St Thomas of Canterbury
