STOC Well-being Afternoon

IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH

  • It is important to be mentally healthy because our daily lives, activities, and relationships are affected by it.
  • Our physical health may also be affected by mental health – the two are not mutually exclusive.
  • The well-being of a person is not measured by physical health only, but by his or her mental health as well.
  • Mental illness knows no age, gender, ethnicity, or social class.
  • Every person must take their mental health seriously because it is essential to a good and fulfilling life.

Today we held our first well-being afternoon of the year and this is to celebrate World Mental Day, which was on Monday 10 October.  This year's theme is to 'make mental health a priority’.  We celebrated this by carrying on with the lovely practices of well-being from last year. The afternoon was spent focusing on creating strategies within the classroom, by exploring items such as:- Zones of Regulation, Well-being box, Well-being breaks, mindful colouring, listening and relaxing to soft music and even some yoga!

The purpose of the afternoon was to reassure the children that they can look after their mental health at school through these resources.
