Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Day

 SING A SONG OF PANCAKES

Sing a song of pancakes,
Sizzling in the pan;
One for Jack and Alice,
One for me and Ann.

Jack has tossed his pancake,
Aren’t we having fun?
Ann is watching closely,
Hers is nearly done.

Alice stirs the batter,
With the wooden spoon,
Laughs to think her pancake
Will be sizzling soon.

There’ll be sugar on them,
Mum puts quite a lot.
When my pancake’s finished
I shall eat it hot.

Pancake Day marks the day before the start of the Christian festival of Lent when people would traditionally use up the ingredients in their store cupboard and make pancakes before getting ready for the six-week fast. During Lent, they would not be allowed to eat rich foods. Today in school the Year 4 children watched pancakes being cooked by Mrs Francis and then after choosing their toppings, they were able to eat them!  The smell coming from the DT Room was delicious!
