Year 5 Victorian Day 2025

The Victorian Age

In London's fog, a city's breath,
Where wealth and poverty walketh,
The bells of industry loudly ring,
While poets dream of what spring will bring.

A Queen ascends, a nation's guide,
Her reign a tapestry, side by side,
Of progress and of ancient lore,
Of steam and smoke, and so much more.

The factory hums, a mighty roar,
While some find fortune, others poor,
The gap widens, a chasm deep,
Where secrets and sorrows sleep.

The poets write, with pen in hand,
Of love and loss in this new land,
Of nature's beauty, stark and vast,
And shadows of the past amassed.

From Tennyson's pen, a hero's call,
To Browning's wit, enthralling all,
The Victorian spirit takes its flight,
In verse and prose, both dark and bright.

A time of change, a time of strain,
Where reason clashes with the pain,
Of progress's price, a heavy toll,
A story yet to make us whole.

This term the children have been studying the Victorians in history. During the Victorian Day the children were treated just like a Victorian child!  Times were hard and the teachers, well, they were very strict!

They did their handwriting lesson with chalk, and did a whole host of Victorian lessons.  They also made the famous Victoria Sponge Cake as well as played various traditional Victorian school games!
