The Truth About Drugs
Today we had a Workshop for our Year 6 called “The Truth About Drugs”. This was presented by Neil from Narconon’s. Here is a summary of the workshop's purpose but I have some facts that the children learnt and comments about what they thought of the workshop. They found it very interesting!
- people can take drugs for a rang for reasons - boredom, depression, peer pressure, curiosity
- when you drink too much alcohol you can become physical or say things you do not mean to say and you can forget some memories as it is poisoning your body
- nicotine makes things addictive
- caffeine in energy drinks, tricks your body into thinking that you have a lot of energy but your body will become sleepy and your nervous system will become numb
- people take drugs because they want to have a high
- alcohol is a drug
- if you drink 100 coffee in one day you can overdose, 2 is enough, 10 will make you sleepy
- drugs are toxins (poisons)
- process in making alcohol is called fermentation
Asa - the workshop was very interesting and the man spoke to us in a clear and concise way
Anjy - it was very factual and personal.
Sebastian - it shows us that not all drugs are bad an some are necessary but others are extremely addictive
